Concept 8 created gleeful illustrations and bookcovers for Ueberreuter.
Searching for a suitable present for your uncle or your brother-in-law, you may be well-advised to explore your bookstore for those tiny humorous books, published solely to serve as gift for kith and kin. Such is the book edition “Darüber lacht ...” (“That’s what they laugh about ...”) by the Austrian publishing house Ueberreuter Verlag, which is filled to bursting with anecdotes from several Austrian provinces.
Concept 8 designed pale-coloured covers with typography and illustrations based on the style of the Fifties when humorous books were en vogue. Upon the client’s request the colours used were altered from pale to bright. The typography and the illustrations remained as presented in the first drafts.
The illustrated scenes on the front covers show gleeful depictions of the Austrian provinces. The scenes are continued on the backs. The accurate and thoroughly abstracted style follows former illustrations as a pithy and modern successor.
