The Pixel Chair is a folded object. Similar to car body parts in the automotive production process, the construction is made stable by the folding alone. The back and the armrests result from the shape of the legs and vice versa. As to form and statics the Pixel Chair is a consistent and sound construction. Every portion of the metal sheet performs a load-bearing function.
The Pixel Chair is a folded object. Similar to car body parts in the automotive production process, the construction is made stable by the folding alone. The back and the armrests result from the shape of the legs and vice versa. As to form and statics the Pixel Chair is a consistent and sound construction. Every portion of the metal sheet performs a load-bearing function. Made of stainless steel sheet, the handmade chair was folded, welded and polished. The manufacturer of this unique piece is the design-oriented company Schinko. The Austrian manufacturer of switch cabinets and metal cases has attached great importance to cooperation with well-know designers’ offices since it was founded and already received a number of design awards. Unlike large-scale production the manufacture of the Pixel Chair required a bundling of the company’s capacities to create a unique piece. The chair is named after the Pixel Hotel, an architecture project that was created for Linz09, European Capital of Culture 2009. Thomas Feichtner designed a temporary hotel room in the premises of a contemporary art gallery just for this project. The Pixel Chair was part of the installation and presented for the first time in January 2009.
