LIGHTBOOTS

The lightboots act as objects, which in a way work poetically to rise above the everyday hideousness. With the light that illuminates the boot and the manipulation of the material the old boot is being put into a new light. Also from the dynamic duo CLAASSEN & PARTNER, the Lightboots are a decorative spin on the Puss in Boots story - though in this case, the boots will stay put and light up your space!

CLAASSEN & PARTNER in Berlin pierces vintage boots with holes like a Jell-O poke cake, gives them an electrical cord, fills them with “energy-saving light bulbs,” and turns them into  lamps. The lightboots are a collection of limited edition lights designed by Sophie Birkmayer. The vintage boots that have been carefully selected, to fit their purpose of style, are customized with different techniques. There are three different approaches, some are painted, others are customised with a pattern of holes, and the third group are zipable ones where the play of light reaches the biggest interaction. Each lightboots is handmade hence they are very unique items not only when illuminated. They only work with energy saving ligthbulbs, not just to save costs of usage, but also to save our environment! Our energy consumption is becoming more and more of an issue.

We all use them, some of us collect them, and others adore them. Most often the shoe collection is gathered in the closet, which unfortunatly unless lit by spotlights is a rather dark space. The lightboots where designed under the aspect of making a light that would fit well into the shoe cupboard, with using exactly what goes inside a shoecloset- shoes. The lightboots are distingushed by the unusual, perhaps paradoxical, and uncommon effect. Although if taken out of the context and being put in a different environment for example on the bedside table, the lightboot turns into a highlight of luminance, which is very appealing.
