2 Austrian Design Studios Make It Into DMY Berlin Design Awards Top 3

For the first time, DMY Berlin, the organizers of the International Design Festival Berlin, joined forces with the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung to award the most outstanding projects among all exhibits of this year's edition of the popular festival. The festival jury was allowed to select three winners from a shortlist of the 10 best. Among the 3 lucky winners, there are two Austrian design studios: Walking Chair and the young studio mischer'traxler, both from Vienna.

In the presence of the festival jury, formed by Jurgen Bey, Jerszy Seymour, Jürgen H. Meyer, Ines Kaag, Bless and Kyoka, and Annemarie Jaeggi from Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung the winners were awarded during a festive ceremony.

Both Viennese designer teams which came to Berlin with new projects were able to convince with its unusual and fresh concepts. Developed in cooperation with the Danish platform LYNfabrikken, Walking Chair designers' duo Karl Emilio Pircher and Fidel Peugeot took the opportunity and, for the first time, presented the brand new street furniture "YOU MAY" to the public, not just once, but twice - both at DMY Berlin and in Aarhus/Denmark where it was installed in the public space for the Aarhus Festival Week. After Berlin, the flexible street furniture "YOU MAY" will be used during the Knowledge Space Vienna on Karlsplatz in June. Further exhibitions are planned.

Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler from studio mischer'traxler showed "The idea of a tree" within the "Youngsters" exhibition at DMY Berlin. Their strongly concept-based "tree-machine" that had already attracted attention on festivals in Holland and at Milan's Furniture Fair this year, was also well received in Berlin, making it into the festival's top 3. "The idea of a tree" represents an autonomous, solar-powered production process. Totally running on sun light, it reacts and incorporates various light intensities into one object per day.

The award-winning projects will be presented together with the Jury Selection of this year's DMY Festival from August 8th – 31st in a special exhibition of the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung.
