Helsinki Biennale - World Fair With A Difference

Ars Electronica Gets New Center in Linz
Ars Electronica’s outstanding international reputation assures it a place in the limelight during Linz’s term as European Capital of Culture in 2009. Several Awards For Industrial Design Class From Vienna's University of Applied Arts
At the first edition of the "Createch ideas competition" organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Traffic, Innovation and Technology, the Industrial Design Class 2 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna finished first in three out of five categories. The competition called for creative solutions in the field of transportation of both passengers and goods. Wine and Design
On Saturday afternoon the bulthaup studio, showroom of the renowned kitchen producer next to Vienna's Opera, was cram-full, a fact that could not really be put down to the damp and windy autumn weather, but to the presentation of a new drinking set by Lobmeyr. „Wiener gemischter Satz“ is the cryptic name of the six-part set designed by Marie Rahm and Monica Singer from Polka, and subjected to a multiple drinking test by the visitors that very afternoon. Award for departure Look/Book
The departure Look/Book designed by Rosebud, Inc. received a gold award at the International ARC Awards Competition, the world’s most important competition for annual reports. The design was based on a “White Cube”, filled with content and life by the ideas of Vienna’s creative professionals. The cover shows the word “Look” written in magenta and partly hidden under a white cloth, like an invitation to satisfy one’s curiosity and take a closer look at creative Vienna. The departure Look/Book, a comprehensive and extraordinarily designed inventory of the current development in the Viennese creative industries, is not only among the prize winners of the Creativ Club Austria: it also convinced the judges of the ARC, the Annual Report Competition. European Design Awards Jury Prize For Two Austrian Designers
The European Design (ED) Awards ceremony, the high-point of Stockholms European Design Week, gathered 380 professionals and students who came to Stockholm to be part of this premier event for communication design in Europe. The ceremony, which took place at the Södra Teatern in Stockholm on May 18, was a long, full night of celebration for European visual communication. As in 2007, the ED-Awards again distinguished the best in graphic design, illustration and multimedia design in Europe. The special Jury Prize went to Angie Rattray and Ulrich Einweg from Austria, for their ‘Planet Earth - directions for use’ project.

Massive Attendance At Design Match 2008 Opening in Prague

With a massive rush of visitors and in the presence of celebrities from the fields of politics and culture from the participating countries, the design biennial "Design Match 2008" opened on 13 March 2008 in the exhibition building of Prague's National Gallery. The only sour note was the absence of the Austrian ambassador and the official authorities in charge of endorsing Austrian design.
