“5 Faces” From Austria's Design Scene
For the first time this year, the “5 Faces of the Year” – relevant and trendsetting designers from Austria – are chosen. The 5 selected designers will be presented in the scope of the design exhibition SPOT ON WIEN – Flashing Austrian Design and Music, by the Vienna Tourist Board and the studio JULAND *BarcelonaVienna, to take place in Tokyo in the end of October 2009.
Since four years, PureAustrianDesign has been successfully promoting Austria’s cultural profile in the stages of the international design scene. Through the “5 Faces of the Year” a new milestone is set to give design lovers worldwide an insight into Austria's design achievements, by pushing forward the faces and stories behind contemporary product design.
The internationally renowned jury was formed by Alison Clarke (University for Applied Arts), Lilli Hollein (Vienna Design Week), Norbert Kettner (Vienna Tourist Board), Uli Marchsteiner (Designer and Curator based in Barcelona), Julia Taubinger | Andrés Fredes (Studio JULAND *BarcelonaVienna), Maxim Velčovský (studio Qubus Prague) and Peter Zec (red dot award), selected the following designers and design studios as the “Five Faces of the Year 2009”.
The “5 Faces” are:
GP DESIGNPARTNERS (1st row: Christoph Pauschitz, Rudolf Greger, 2nd row: Christian Rukower, Roland Kaufmann, Klemens Schillinger, Tom Haberfellner) - Because Austrian design is since centuries successful and straight lined industrial Design. 
MISCHER'TRAXLER (Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxler) – Because Austrian Design is young and doesn’t shun away from conceptual experiments. 
POLKA (Monica Singer and Marie Rahm) - Because Austrian Design owns the Viennese charm and is both fanciful and tasteful.
ROBERT STADLER - Because Austrian Design is internationally successful and stands at the border (edge) with art. 
SODA DESIGNERS (Nada Nasrallah and Christian Horner) - Because Austrian Design owns a timeless elegance and lives in a multicultural context.
In the scope of SPOT ON WIEN – Flashing Austrian Design and Music, the “Five Faces of the Year” will stand under the spotlight of the whole Asian Design universe this year. SPOT ON WIEN – Flashing Austrian Design and Music is a comprehensive international exhibition of contemporary design, music, dance and fashion to take place during the Tokyo Designers' Week.
SPOT ON WIEN – Flashing Austrian Design and Music is set up by the Vienna Tourist Board and JULAND *BarcelonaVienna together with their partners the Austrian National Tourist Office and evolve | impulse.
