Call For Entries: SPOT ON WIEN – Flashing Austrian Design

On 26 March 2009, the Vienna Tourist Board and JULAND *BarcelonaVienna together with their partners evolve | impulse and Österreich Werbung are announcing the Call For Entries for the exhibition "SPOT ON WIEN - Flashing Austrian Design" in Tokyo 2009, looking for the best designs from the fields of furniture, product design, lighting, outdoor and tableware to be submitted on PureAustrianDesign.com. An internationally renowned jury will bring the 20 best works on the Japanese design stage in autumn this year, where more than 100,000 visitors are expected. From now Austrian designers have the opportunity to apply for an exclusive and free presentation of their products at 100% Design Tokyo.

SPOT ON WIEN in Tokyo
For five days, from 30 October to 3 November 2009, the spots of the international design world will be set on Japan, as the "Tokyo Designers' Week", the Asian design hotspot, attracts enthusiasts from all over the world to marvel and to celebrate in this Japanese metropolis. Within the framework of the Tokyo edition of 100% Design, the Vienna Tourist Board and JULAND *BarcelonaVienna will also present selected Austrian design under the focus "SPOT ON WIEN - Austrian Flashing Design and Music". In a dazzling exhibition and a series of collateral events the selected designers from Austria will be set in the limelight of a greater audience.

100% Design Tokyo
The international show at the Jingu-Gaien fairgrounds in the heart of Tokyo is one of the most exciting design fairs. Prominently placed on 120m2, SPOT ON WIEN will put a top selection of the domestic creativity in the fields of furniture, product design, lighting, outdoor and tableware into the far-eastern spotlight. The entire exhibition setting focuses on the theme of light, offering the visitors an atmospheric design landscape in which each object is perfectly lit for effect.

Call For Entries
From 26 March to 3 May 2009, professional designers from Austria are called to submit their 'spot on' creations on PureAustrianDesign.com to present them during Tokyo Design Fair – without any costs for transportation and exhibition. We are looking for innovative, stylish, contemporary and unusual ideas which can endure on the international design stage - from a refined, elegant table service to a 'Future Design Classic' emerged from Austrian seating culture. For the call prototypes are just as welcome as finished products to flash in front of thousands of visitors.

Submission and Jury
Designers have to submit online the objects for the contest. By means of an online voting system, 9 internationally acknowledged jury members choose the 20 best design objects out of the general pool of submissions. Under the art direction of JULAND *BarcelonaVienna this selection will be complemented to compose a multi-facetted show. In a final meeting 7 jury members will decide on the 'New Faces 2009' of SPOT ON WIEN - five outstanding designers, which will be presented under a special light in Tokyo.

Selection and Presentation
The international jury will evaluate the submissions according to the criteria of innovation, formal and technological quality, aesthetic standards and functionality. The 'final selection' of the exhibitors to represent Austrian design at 100% Design in autumn will flash up for the first time in May at a press conference in Tokyo and put the visitors in the mood for a sparkling show with "Flashing Austrian Design and Music".

Entry Rules
Participation is open to designers who live in Austria or worldwide for Austrians working in the field of design. The deadline for registration ends on 26 April 2009 to receive the access data for your contest account.
