Czech Design Exhibition “Křehký by Designblok Prague” In France And Belgium

Czech exhibition for glass and porcelain design „Křehký by Designblok Prague“, presented for the first time at Prague's design fair „Designblok'07“, is on a world tour since then and to be seen in two different places: From 14 March to 10 May at Lille3000, Folie Lambersart in Lille, France, and from 27 March to 26 April, 2009 at Design Vlaanderen in Brussels.

The Křehký by Designblok Prague exhibition presents the art of both Czech and world designers in connection with the traditional craftsmanship of Czech glass and porcelain manufacturers. The “Crème de la crème” – a selection of the best pieces of contemporary Czech designer glass and porcelain – was presented to the public at Designblok ’07 in Prague for the first time. The Křehký exhibition started its tour of the world in April 2007 in Milan, the Mecca of design, at Salone del Mobile. Later, the exhibition continued its journey to the prestigious international furniture and accessory fair – the ICFF in New York – where the Křehký Collection won the ICFF 2008 Editors Award.

Next, the original installation for the emotional landscape of Czech design, designed by Maxim Velčovský, travelled to 100% Design Tokyo in October 2008. In January 2009, new limited editions designed by Jiří Pelcl, Alfredo Häberli, and Maxim Velčovský were successfully presented at Maison et Objet in Paris.

Křehký by Designblok Prague has become an official exhibition presenting Czech culture within the Czech Presidency of the EU Council. The exhibition will be presented with new architecture by Jiří Pelcl in the prestigious gallery Design Vlaanderen in Brussels from March 27 to May 10, 2009.

The exhibition will be concurrently presented in its original form of an emotional landscape in architecture by Maxim Velčovský at the Lille 3000 festival in the gallery Le Colysée, maison Folie de Lambersart, where it will be inaugurated by the director of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, Helena Koenigsmarková. The exhibition will take place until April 26.

KŘEHKÝ Limited Editions
A series of limited editions, each amounting to 50 pieces, is being created for the Křehký exhibition project. The project aims to demonstrate the quality of Czech manufacturers in connection to world standards of excellent design. The very first limited edition – the Cactus vase, designed by the prominent Czech designer Jiří Pelcl and manufactured in the traditional Kavalír Czech glass factory that produces flameproof glassware and technical glassware, was made in 2007.

One year later, other limited editions were presented, such as The Vase of Vases (inspired by famous vases from Czech history and designed by the star of European design, Maxim Velčovský, and manufactured in two sizes for the Novito company) and Glass Music, an interior object designed by Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli and inspired by The Town Musicians of Bremen written by the Brothers Grimm. Glass Music was manufactured at Ajeto, the Czech glass factory. In addition, the light object designed by Bořek Šípek, which was inspired by the world of animals and bones and the play of shadows, is now produced by the Novito company.
